The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ has awarded governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, the Most Gender-Friendly Governor in the country.
The group of female journalists bestowed the honour on Amosun during the grand finale of the 25th anniversary of the association which came up at OK Centre, Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta on Saturday, October 25.
Amosun, who is the Special Guest of Honour at the ceremony was said to have merited the award for being the only governor in the country who has the highest number of women in his cabinet.
In her welcome address, Ifeyinwa Omowole, NAWOJ national President said her administration has been trying to improve journalism in the country by training and retraining members to enhance professionalism.
She also thanked all those who contributed to the success of the association’s 25th anniversary.
The Nigerian women journalists also took the occasion to launch, The Evergreen Book, a publication of the association while NAWOJ board of trustees was also inaugurated at the event.
Dignitaries at the event include Olufunso Amosun, wife of Ogun State governor; Alaba Lawson, Iyalode of Yorubaland; Tunde Awolana, general manager of Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation, Seun Fasanya, wife of Abeokuta South West representative in the state House of Assembly.
Others are Elizabeth Shokunbi, Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs; Modupe Adekunle, Ogun State Head of Civil Service and other prominent personalities.
In his acceptance speech, Amosun promised to always support the association, female journalists and all women generally in every possible ways.Follow Us on Social Media
