The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has temporarily shut down its online company registration portal following a confirmed cyberattack that compromised parts of its digital infrastructure, raising fresh concerns over the safety of corporate data in Nigeria.

In a statement released on Friday, the Commission announced that the portal will be offline from 12:00 midnight on April 17, 2026, to 6:00 a.m. on April 20, 2026. While the downtime was initially described as scheduled maintenance, the CAC confirmed it was triggered by a cybersecurity breach affecting limited sections of its information systems.

The Commission acknowledged the “unfortunate incident,” noting that a cyberattack had led to unauthorized access and impacted millions of data points across its database.

Following the breach, containment measures were immediately activated, and a full-scale system review is now underway in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and other security agencies. The Nigeria Data Protection Commission has also been notified as investigations continue.

Under the leadership of Registrar-General Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, the Commission advised users to take precautionary steps once services resume, including reviewing company records, updating passwords, and staying alert to potential phishing attempts or scam messages exploiting the situation.

Business owners planning urgent registrations or filings have been urged to postpone activities until the portal is fully restored on Monday morning, as the shutdown is expected to temporarily disrupt corporate transactions nationwide.

The incident adds to growing concerns about the vulnerability of Nigeria’s digital infrastructure, following a series of cyberattacks targeting government platforms in recent years.

The CAC has apologized for the inconvenience caused and assured stakeholders that stronger security measures are being implemented to prevent future breaches and improve system resilience.

Normal operations are expected to resume by 6:00 a.m. on April 20, 2026, with further updates to be released as investigations progress.
