Twitter Nigeria is currently ablaze with admiration and celebration after a remarkable show of community power and celebrity generosity changed one young man’s life forever.
David Obadiah Dolapo, popularly known online as “Baddy of LASU”, is now set to undergo a life-changing leg correction surgery in Egypt — thanks to ₦22 million raised by Nigerians online, and a ₦3 million personal donation from Afrobeats superstar, Davido.
Born with Genu Varum, commonly known as bowlegs, Dolapo’s condition worsened as he grew older. Despite undergoing three painful surgeries in Nigeria — at Igbobi (ages 6 and 8) and LASUTH (age 12) — none yielded the correction he hoped for. Each operation took close to two years of recovery, yet the deformity and the associated pains persisted. Alongside spinal stress, hip pain, fatigue, and psychological trauma, Dolapo faced relentless bullying and ridicule, even as he gained attention on social media.
Ironically, it was that same ridicule that became his turning point. After going viral in 2024 for trolling singer Peruzzi, and later amid rumors about his relationship, Dolapo leaned into the moment. The bullying transformed into “cruise,” and sympathy turned into action.
Nigerians, recognizing his potential — especially in pro modeling — began pledging support. Then came the game-changer: popular influencer Wizarab (@Wizarab10) stepped in, coordinated a structured fundraising campaign, and rallied Twitter users for the cause.
They explored hospitals in Nigeria, India, and ultimately settled on Saudi German Hospital in Cairo, Egypt, where the surgery and related expenses were quoted at ₦18.3 million. Wizarab raised the target to ₦20 million for contingencies — and in just two weeks, Nigerians had raised over ₦22 million.
