Thirty-six candidates, including a former Majority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, and Herberta Okonofua, former national women leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are to fly the flag of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2027 general elections.
Chairman of the National and State House of Assembly Primary Election Committee, Ebiowei Olomu Olomu said after the exercise on Friday, that three aspirants emerged as senatorial candidates, nine for the House of Representatives and 24 for the Edo State House of Assembly.

Olomu said the aim of the ADC was to take over government in 2027. Appealing to all aspirants to close ranks, he said, “we all can see the suffering Nigerians are going through – the insecurity, the high cost of living” and appealed to all aspirants “to work together to be able to achieve our objectives. We appeal to anybody aggrieved by the conduct of the primary election to appeal to the committee set up by the national.”

Announcing the results, Olomu said Iduoriyekemwen, who represented Edo in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, emerged as the Edo South Senatorial District candidate on consensus, polling 23,174 votes; Mrs. Herberta Inemezele Okonofua also emerged as consensus candidate for Edo Central Senatorial District, garnering 4,898 votes, while Prince Musa Jerry Braimo of Edo North, emerged with 14,992 votes.

Speaking on his victory, Iduoriyekemwen, former commissioner with the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, said he was happy that the party had offered him the platform to contest the 2027 senatorial election, boasting that there is no politician in Edo South Senatorial District that understands the zone better than himself.

He said, “I am happy that ADC has given me the opportunity to be its candidate for the 2027 Senatorial election. There is no politician in Edo South that knows the zone more than me. I am a grassroots politician.”
