Abducted Monday February 7, 2022, at his Jattu, near Auchi residence in Etsako West local government area of Edo State, factional chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Benin Depot branch, Abdul-Hamid Egele was on Wednesday morning released after payment of ₦70 million ransom in far away Kaduna State.
A family source who confirmed Egele’s release and amount paid, was however silent on the exact location in Edo State he was picked up.
According to the source, “He was released yesterday morning after a ransom of ₦70 million was paid in Kaduna. As we speak, he is in an undisclosed hospital in Benin receiving treatment.”
The abductors had about six days after he was seized in a bloody operation that claimed the lives of two of his drivers, opened negotiation with the family, demanding ₦80 million.
Spokesman of the state Police Command, Kontongs Bello, superintendent of police, SP, could not be reached for confirmation. A senior police officer however said they were yet to be briefed about the development.
