As Muslims in Nigeria join their counterparts across the globe to celebrate Eid Maulud, the birth of Prophet Muhammed on January 2, Suleiman Abba, Inspector-General of Police, IGP has extended his greetings to the Muslim faithfuls.
In his message to the Muslims, Abba admonished them to be kind and accommodating to their neighbours.
Reiterating his commitment to ensure security during the celebration, the IGP instructed all Police commands and formations across the country to be at alert and “ensure the security architecture put in place are improved upon to ensure adequate protection of lives and properties,” a statement on the force website read.
The statement signed by Emmanuel Ojukwu, the force Public Relations Officer and obtained by the magazine, said the IGP ordered the police officers to control the flow of traffic and ensure safety of commuters and all road users.
Finally, Abba commended police officers in the country for their hard work during the Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year festivities; and asked them to replicate the same professionalism during the Eid Maulud celebration on Friday.
The federal government had declared Friday, January 2 as public holiday for the celebration of the birth of Prophet Mohammed.
