Erico Blames NFF Crisis For Eagles Loss

Joe Erico, former Super Eagles’ Assistant Coach, has attributed Nigeria’s 3-2 loss to Congo in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Calabar on Saturday, to the leadership crisis in the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.

The result leaves Nigeria in the third position in Group A behind South Africa, who thrashed Sudan 3-0 on Friday, and Congo who came second after defeating Nigeria at home.

Erico said in spite of the loss, the Eagles can show more determination in forthcoming matches.

“I guess part of the reason for the loss was the fact that the boys were not focused, in view of the power tussle in the Nigeria Football Federation. The team played well, and the loss was just a goal margin. But I believe they can play better and show more determination, ’’ Erico said.

While stating that there was still room for improvement, Erico urged the players to have faith in themselves and improve on teamwork.

“I believe that there is still room for improvement. I think it is not over yet, the boys just have to believe in themselves with defensive solidarity and teamwork,” Erico added.

The Eagles will be hosted by South Africa in Cape Town on Wednesday for their second group match, while Congo would be hosting Sudan on the same day.
