FAAN Shuts Down Abuja Airport’s Runway for Rehabilitation

Due to maintenance works going on at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, the management of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has disclosed that the runway of the airport will be closed to traffic from Saturday, July 5 to Monday, July 7, 2014.

Yakubu Dati, coordinating general manager of Aviation Parastatals, said in a statement released earlier today that a Notice to all airmen, NOTAM, informing stakeholders that the runway will be shut at 2300 UTC on Saturday and reopened at 0500 UTC on Monday has already been issued.

According to the statement, the on going facility upgrade is in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organisation, ICAO, requirements and also in line with the safety and Standard and Recommended Practices, SARPs, approved by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA.

FAAN assured the public, especially aviation stakeholders that the rehabilitation will further enhance safety and security of intending passengers. The aviation authority also apologizes for the inconveniences the temporary closure might cause air passengers and airline operators.
