Fashola Chides Jonathan

Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola has criticized President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for what he described as his failure to articulate his plans for Nigeria during the presidential campaign rally held in Lagos on Thursday.

Fashola spoke on Thursday evening at a political forum in Benin City, Edo State capital, organized by the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, where the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Yemi Osinbajo, a professor of law, addressed a cross-section of Edo people on the developmental programmes the party plans to implement if voted into office at the centre.

Osinbajo is the running mate to former head of state, Muhammadu Buhari, retired army general, who is contesting the presidency with Jonathan, candidate of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

Fashola who claimed to have watched the rally which held in his state, said “I saw a very angry president, I saw a president who was recriminating about people criticizing his job performance and he was blaming all those who ruled before him forgetting that he had been on this job for six years. And he kept saying that they say we don’t have a plan but for 29 minutes, he did not reveal his plan on power, he did not reveal his plan on security, he did not reveal his plan on corruption.”

According to the governor, “after six years, without being able to articulate what he is doing and what he will do, and he keeps blaming everybody, forgetting that he’s the commander-in-chief. If the kitchen is too hot as it is becoming obvious, you must get out of the kitchen.”

Fashola contended that “this election is going to be about job approval for the president, his record of service. It’s not about where he comes from; it is not about how old and how young he is…his job approval after six years. Are you happy about the way your country is?… So, if after six years he has not been able to explain to you what he had been doing with your tax, resources, 52 percent of the revenue allocation formula, do you want to continue for another four years?” he said.

Fashola added that Osinbajo was nominated just three weeks ago “and he has been clearly articulating what he wants to do. Are you going to test that man and give him a chance?”

The governor alleged that in the 2007 election, the PDP “rigged everything that was riggable” but Osinbajo as the Attorney-General of Lagos at that time, made the retrieval of the stolen mandates of the party’s candidates possible.
