Aliyu Yelwa, pioneer Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, FRC, on Monday, died in his hometown in Yauri, Kebbi State, aged 78.
Yelwa who was appointed Chairman of FRC in 2008 served out his tenure in December 2013. He had earlier served as Federal Cabinet Minister in the Ministries of Water Resources and Rural Development between 1995 and 1998.
Victor Muruako, FRC’s Acting Chairman, in a statement issued on Tuesday said, Yelwa had already been buried in accordance with Islamic rites. The statement added that the third-day Islamic prayer would hold on Wednesday, November 26.
Born on August 16, 1936, Yelwa started primary education in 1946 at the Central Elementary School, Yelwa-Yauri and attended Government College (Barewa College) Zaria between 1953 and 1958.
Yelwa bagged the Intermediate ACCA in 1961 at the College of Administration, Achimota, Ghana. He also attended the Scottish College of Commerce/Sprathcylve University in Glasgow from 1962 to 1965.
The late pioneer FRC chairman who started his work career at the Ministry of Finance of Northern Nigeria in 1966 served on many boards at both federal and state levels during his life time.
