Nigerian music icon Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, professionally known as Wizkid, has set a new global record after becoming the first African artist to surpass 9.9 billion total streams on Spotify.

The historic achievement further reinforces Wizkid’s dominance on the global music scene and highlights the growing international influence of Afrobeats. His expansive catalogue, which includes solo projects and high-profile collaborations, continues to attract massive listenership across continents.

In addition to the Spotify milestone, Wizkid remains Africa’s best-selling artist, with reported global sales exceeding 81 million units, covering streaming equivalents, digital downloads, and collaborative records.

The Grammy Award-winning star has also made history as the first African artist to surpass 20 billion audio on-demand streams, placing him in an elite category of the world’s most-streamed musicians.

Wizkid’s commercial success is matched by his critical acclaim, as he holds the title of Africa’s most awarded artist, with honours from major international platforms including the Grammy Awards, BET Awards, Billboard Music Awards, MOBO Awards, and numerous African music accolades.

From his breakout hit Holla at Your Boy to globally acclaimed projects such as Made in Lagos, Wizkid has been instrumental in pushing Afrobeats onto the world stage, paving the way for a new generation of African artists.

Industry observers say the latest milestone not only underscores Wizkid’s longevity and consistency but also signals the continued rise of African music in the global mainstream.
