There was a fire outbreak at the private residence of the Bayelsa State governor, Seriacke Dickson, on Thursday.
TELL learnt that the fire outbreak started in a room in the two-storey building located on Opolo road, Yenagoa.
However, it was gathered that the quick intervention of men of the state fire service and security operatives guarding the premises saved the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
The cause of the fire could not be ascertained as journalists were not allowed into the premises.
Eventually the fire was successfully put out at about 2pm by fire fighters who had initially responded with three trucks, which were on hand to fight the fire.
A large number of riot policemen were also seen on ground, while security personnel did not allow people, except government officials and security operatives, into the premises. People were also prevented from taking pictures of the building. “This is for security reason,” said one of the riot policemen at the scene said.
Dickson was said to have been away on official assignment to Abuja when the incident occurred.
