Mutual Benefits Home and Properties Ltd, a subsidiary of Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc., a leading name in the Nigeria insurance business, in its bid to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians, on Tuesday, commissioned the Mutual Alpha Court, an estate located within the Costain area of Lagos Mainland Local Government Area of Lagos State.

Akin Ogunbiyi, Group Managing Director, Mutual Group in his speech at the commissioning said Mutual group’s foray into housing development through a 60-unit estate sitting on 27 plots of land, was a step to compliment governments’ efforts.

“Our foray into housing development was to compliment governments’ initiatives at providing affordable homes to fellow Nigerians. Housing needs of Nigerians have been put at 17 million and recent efforts by government at all levels and the private sector fall very short of what is required,” Ogunbiyi said.

According to him, urbanization has made housing problems worse because in metropolitan cities like Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt there is a constant pull of people to the city centres.

Bayo Oshibo, Managing Director, Portland construction, who is also a subscriber to the estate, was full of appreciation, stating that the good job done by Mutual Benefits Home and Properties Limited, “has put a lie to the fact that you cannot get good developers in Nigeria.”

He added that, “Today, I am seriously, indeed very proud of this project. It has put a lie to the fact that you cannot get good developers in Nigeria or people cannot do anything good in Nigeria. I have been in there, I have seen the quality and things they have done to turn the Iponri I knew to an urban area.”

Oshibo said the estate will open doors to other developments in the area.

Pat Utomi, another subscriber to the estate said being sentimentally attached to Iponri because he did his youth service assignment there; he subscribed to the estate when he heard about it.

The management of Mutual Benefits also assured Nigerians that the company would be involved in more property development projects so as to help cut down housing deficits in the country.
