Two years after a “5 Star” Central Hospital in Benin City, Edo State was commissioned by President Muhammadu Buhari and then Governor Adams Oshiomhole, the hospital remains under lock and key.
The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Edo State, Dan Orbih in an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, titled “Two Years After, Central Hospital Still Under Lock and Key”, decried the deplorable state of the hospital, which the former Governor of the state and current chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshiomoleand President Buhari commissioned two years ago.
The letter which was dated January 16, 2019, revealed that the hospital has been host to rodents and reptiles and has neither recorded any out-patient, nor has it admitted any in-patient.
The former governor was also accused of denying the people of Edo State access to good health facilities and using the project “as a scam” to defraud the state and the presidency of being a part of the deceit for being persuaded to commission a “non-existent” hospital.
Orbih urged the President to visit the hospital premises during his January, 17th visit to the state for his campaign in Edo State to enable him to see the hospital.
The letter read in part: “Our concern over this despicable act, Mr. President, is not just that billions of taxpayers’ money was sunk into this phoney project, but you were persuaded to commission a non-existent hospital that makes it look like you were party to the deceit and fraud.
“While Edo people are now used to the fact that Adams Oshiomhole can do anything to deceive the people to enrich himself, we are embarrassed at the attempt to use your person to commission a building that has only served as a center for internally displaced reptiles in Benin City as well as a conduit pipe for milking Edo state and its people.
“Finally, Mr. President we urge you to pay a second visit to the Central Hospital to enable you appreciate the disappointment of the people over this scandal of fraud and deceit. We call on you to use your office to direct relevant government agencies to commence immediate investigation and necessary action to bring the principal actors to book.”
