Ilara-Mokin Hosts 2026 Business Network Golf Tournament at Smokin Hills Resort
Global Business Leaders Set for Ilara-Mokin Golf Tournament Bode Adediji Explains Link Between Golf and National Development Why Smokin Hills Golf Resort Was Chosen A World-Class Golf Facility in Ondo State
Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, is set for global attention as the Smokin Hills Golf Resort hosts the 2026 Business Network Golf Tournament on February 21, 2026, bringing together business leaders, professionals, and artisans from around the world.
The prestigious tournament, sponsored by Bode Adediji Partnership and Kontinental Developers Limited, is designed to blend sport, business networking, and socio-economic dialogue, using golf as a platform to foster professional connections and national development.
Speaking on the significance of the event, the sponsor, Bode Adediji, a renowned estate surveyor and valuer, described the tournament as a strategic contribution to Nigeria’s sporting ecosystem and a reflection of the broader relationship between golf, infrastructure, and economic progress.
“The main purpose of this tournament is our modest way of contributing to the sporting community,” Adediji said. “There is a school of thought that links the growth of golf players and facilities with the overall socio-economic development of a nation. In many respects, it is an index of development.”
Drawing comparisons with countries such as Japan, China, South Korea, the United States, and Italy, where golf thrives alongside advanced infrastructure, Adediji noted that the sport rarely flourishes in environments of poverty and underdevelopment.
He further explained that golf plays a critical role in leisure and recreation management, an often-overlooked sector that is central to modern business culture and professional growth worldwide. According to him, this reality underpins the organisers’ decision to promote the sport through a business-focused tournament.
On the choice of venue, Adediji praised the Smokin Hills Golf Resort, also known as Elizade Golf Resorts, developed by Ondo-born industrialist and Chairman of Elizade Motors, Chief Michael Adeojo. The 18-hole championship course, located about 20 minutes from Akure, the Ondo State capital, is the first and only golf facility in the cocoa-producing state.
Set in a university town and adjacent to Elizade University, the course has earned acclaim for its striking aesthetics and world-class design. Adediji said first-time visitors are often pleasantly surprised, with many golfers comparing the facility to the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, and Le Meridien Ibom Golf Resort, Uyo, Nigeria’s most internationally rated golf courses.
He added that the course demands patience and creativity around the greens, featuring multiple bunkers and mature trees, while remaining accessible to both seasoned golfers and weekend players. According to Adediji, the combined facilities of Elizade University and the golf resort are capable of hosting events on par with similar institutions across the globe.
With its unique setting and rising profile, the Smokin Hills Golf Resort is poised to deliver a memorable tournament that reinforces Ondo State’s growing reputation as a destination for sports tourism, business networking, and infrastructure-driven development.
