The Nigeria Immigration Service in Zamfara State has deported 150 immigrants believed to have illegally entered Nigeria from neighboring countries this year.
Shehuri Sadiq the state comptroller of Immigration stated this at a news briefing in Gusau on Tuesday.
Sadiq said the illegal aliens were arrested during operations to remove irregular immigrants in the state.
He said the raids were carried out in areas including Bungudu, Mada, Mado town,Gusau, Samaru, Filin Jirgi, Gada biyu and Damba.
The comptroller added that the exercise was not intended to spite any nation but to defend and protect “our fragile democracy.”
According Sadiq,during the operation, some of the immigrants were found to be in possession of Nigeria’s National Identity Cards and Voter cards. He described the act as one that is obviously against the nation’s nascent democracy.
