Professor Attahiru Jega, chairman of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC will not permit anyone to collect the permanent voters’ cards, PVCs on behalf of anybody, however closely related such persons may be to one another. According to him, anyone who is found to have done this would be deemed to have committed criminal offence.
Jega who was speaking at an ongoing town hall meeting said the decision of the Commission in this regard was meant to check fraudulent practices during the general election. The Commission chairman said INEC officials have been told to decline attempts to have PVCs collected by proxy.
