Lagos NUJ Games to Get N5 million

Muneer Bankole, the Managing Director and Chief executive officer of Med-View Airline has promised to sponsor the next annual games of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, with a sum of N5 million.

He made the pledge today while giving his opening remarks at the opening ceremony of the Med-View NUJ Media Games 2014 held at the Legacy Pitch of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Bankole whose company initially disbursed N2 million to support this year’s games also promised additional N500, 000 and reiterated Med-View’s commitment to support the NUJ especially in developmental activities.

Balogun Lasisi, the representative of Sunil Sawhney, chief executive officer of 7UP Bottling Company expressed his delight for being present at the event saying he had always known the NUJ for excellent media practices and he was pleased to know that they can participate actively in something as interesting as sports.

Taye Ige, Managing Director of Hot Sports International commended the sponsors noting that such philanthropic moves endear companies to the media which in turn, promote the companies. He also donated N300,000 to support the NUJ 2014 Games.

In his welcome address, Deji Elumoye, Chairman of Lagos NUJ thanked all the sponsors for their support and expressed hope that the games would end successfully.

The opening football match between the NUJ and Med-View teams ended in a tie with the teams scoring a goal each.

The opening ceremony also witnessed a march past by members of the NUJ from different chapels like Tell communications, Voice of Nigeria, Vanguard, This Day and The Source magazine amongst others.

The NUJ games was launched in 2005 and this year’s games, which ends on September 5, 2014 would feature scrabbles, draughts, ayo, football and other indoor and outdoor games.
