Nigerian footballer and Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo is at the center of a social media firestorm after a pro-APC blog, RenewedHope2027, falsely attributed a glowing tribute to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—despite the fact that she was not even present in Abuja during the event.
According to the now-debunked report, the blog claimed Esther had praised Tinubu after the team’s Aso Rock reception, saying she initially disliked him due to political narratives but “fell in love with him” after meeting him in person.
The fabricated quote read in part:
“As you already know, I’m Igbo… I had that mentality too. But after meeting him yesterday, I saw a completely different person. Caring, kind, with a great sense of humor. If you meet him, you’ll definitely fall in love with him.”
But the post quickly unraveled when Esther Okoronkwo took to Snapchat with a simple and cutting rebuttal:
“Abeg, na when did I talk this one?”
Multiple sources confirm that Esther never attended the Abuja reception for the Super Falcons, as she had already returned to her club in Canada shortly after the team’s WAFCON campaign.
This revelation has led Nigerians online to accuse the blog of doing a “Governor Amuneke”—a term inspired by a trending comedian known for satirizing how Nigerian politicians manipulate media narratives and deceive the public with staged or doctored content.

Social media users wasted no time drawing the parallels:
“They just did a real-life Amuneke skit. The girl wasn’t even there!”
“Even the actress they used didn’t show up for the movie premiere. Na wa!”
