Maurice Iwu, former chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has said that Nigeria is under a foreign attack.
He warned that this will affect the 2015 election if Nigerians do not come together as one.
Iwu stated this at the second anniversary lecture and presentation of Paragon of journalism, a book.
The book was published to mark the second year anniversary of Realnews magazine on Wednesday, November 19 at the Sheraton Hotels, Lagos.
Speaking on the topic, ‘Nigeria Democracy: Getting it right in 2015,’ Iwu noted that if some issues are dealt with in Nigeria, the 2015 elections will be successful”In order to have a conducive environment in 2015, curbing violence before, during and after election, reducing pervasive interest of money in election and changing the issue of mind set of Nigerians, is very important.”
He added that if there is promotion of internal democracy in political parties as well as poverty eradication and empowerment in the country, the 2015 election will be peaceful and successful.
“The prospect for future democracy is bright and 2015 represents good chance and opportunities. If we all come together as one and play our roles, Nigeria will get to where it ought to be,” Iwu said.
