Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will on Friday
The test run of the train ride starts from the Iju area of Lagos to Abeokuta in Ogun State. The Vice President will ride along with the Transportation Minister, Chibuike Amaechi to mark the inauguration of the new standard gauge rail section.
Although construction work is currently ongoing, the train service is expected to provide relief from the current heavy burden and pressure on the Iju area through Ijoko in Ogun State. Workers at the construction sites told the magazine that work is being hampered by the presence of underground water pipes and demolition of buildings.
Despite these challenges, the project, when completed, will facilitate the movement of goods between Abeokuta in Ogun State and Lagos. Traders in Lagos, for example, can transport their products to Abeokuta easily without having to worry about the cost of shipment and delivery. In doing so, it would also reduce the burden on highways and promote economic growth.
