There has been an outbreak of violence at the Police headquarters, Osun State on Monday.
Policemen posted to the state for the August 9, 2014 governorship elections are protesting non payment of their allowance.
The road leading to the police headquarters has been blocked by the protesting police officers. They have also decided to vent their anger on journalists. Two cameramen were beaten and injured by the rampaging policemen. Most of the protesting policemen are part of the team of security men, including soldiers and men of the Department of State Security Services, DSSS who were deployed, by the Federal government, in Osun State few days to the governorship election.
The Federal government reportedly paid them N10,000 out of N50,000 that they were promised as allowance. The men are therefore calling for the balance before returning to their base. A source said the angry policemen pounced on a senior officer who addressed them earlier.
Although they are due to leave Osun State today, the presence of the security men in the state had been largely criticised by the All Progressives Congress, APC. The APC had insisted that the security men were deployed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-led Federal government to intimidate the electorates and work in favour of Iyiola Omisore, the PDP candidate in the election.
Rauf Aregbesola, incumbent governor and APC candidate, won the election.
