Osun Elections: INEC Under Pressure to Alter Results

There are speculations in Osogbo that officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, are under intense pressure to doctor results of the governorship election held in Osun State on Saturday in favour of Iyiola Omisore, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the exercise.

Sources say the plan was to delay the collation exercise till late into the night so that people who were already jubilating would have slept by the time the results are announced.

It is however uncertain that the people will sleep. This is because as at after 10 pm on Saturday, scores of youth were seen gathered at Oke Fia roundabout in Osogbo watching the election results posted on an electronic board. A good number of them appeared not to be in a hurry to leave the place as they were armed with drinks as well as writing materials with which they were computing the results.

A change in the authentic results as earlier collated, recorded and announced at all the polling units across the state may spark widespread protests.
