Star Unveils Okocha and Kanu as Ambassadors

Walter DrenthNigerian Breweries, makers of Star lager beer, has deepened its association with football, Nigeria’s favourite sports. It unveiled Austin Jay Jay Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu, ex – internationals, as ambassadors for ShineOnNigeria, its brand’s football activation.

Walter Drenth, marketing director of the company, at the Star Football Activation unveil media parley, explained that Star’s decision to recruit the ex-internationals was to celebrate their achievements in the game of football. “Not only have Okocha and Kanu made Nigeria proud, they have become role models to the Nigerian youth who seek to emulate their victories on-the-pitch. Star is a proudly Nigerian brand which seeks to promote the positive attributes of Nigeria’s heroes for others to emulate”, he noted.

Drenth added that it is a privilege for the brand to seek to be a part of the lives of Nigerians, “we have identified the football platform as an avenue to deepen our bond with the citizens of this great country. Indeed, the affinity, which the average Nigerian has with football, is legendary. I have heard people say that during football matches, Nigerians put aside all divisive sentiments and cheer our country’s representatives to victory.”

Star also partner DSTV to beam all the football matches of the upcoming FIFA Football Mundial, to TV audiences. Drenth added that the partnership is an avenue to give football lovers an opportunity to watch live football matches. He remarks: “We decided to partner DSTV so as to give Star beer consumers and football lovers the opportunity of watching live football matches as well as in-depth analysis of games. We do not want them to miss a moment of the exciting and exhilarating games.”
