Sunday’s bomb explosion in Kano, Nigeria’s second largest city, has been said to have claimed more than 70 lives.
Eye witnesses say the blast, which emanated from a car bomb, occurred at about 10pm, Sunday, May 18 in Sabongari area of kano, an area mostly inhabited by people from the southern part of Nigeria.
The blast ripped through a busy road filled with bars.The explosion could be heard several miles away, eyewitnesses said.
Abdul Gafar, one of the witnesses, said he heard a loud blast..”And there was a lot of smoke. Soldiers came in to cordon off the place and ambulances were rushing people to hospital,” he stated
Although accusing fingers have been pointed in the direction of Boko Haram, the violent Islamist sect, no group has claimed responsibility for the blast yet.
