Suarez Makes La Liga Debut

Luis Suarez, suspended Barcelona striker, will finally be making his debut in his new club after enduring a four-month ban for biting Giorgio Chiellini, Italy’s defender during the last FIFA World Cup.

The game takes place on Saturday, October 25, a day after Suarez’s ban expires. The confirmation comes after Spain’s professional league, LFP, announced the date of the first leg of the El Clasico clash on Wednesday.

According to a statement on the club’s website, Barcelona said Suarez has been cleared to appear in his first official fixture if Coach Luis Enrique opts to allow him play.

“The Court of Arbitration for Sport, CAS, has confirmed to FC Barcelona that the Uruguayan’s suspension will end at midnight on Friday 24 October; therefore, clearing him to appear in his first official fixture for his new club, against none other than Real Madrid, should Coach Luis Enrique opt to play him,” the statement read.

Barcelona signed Suarez from Liverpool in a record £75m deal is spite of the fact that he had been banned from all football related activities for four months by FIFA.

Although Suarez appealed the judgment at CAS, the court upheld his ban but only permitted him to train with Barcelona and play in friendly matches. That decision ensured that he played his first game for the Catalan club when he came on as a substitute in a 6-0 friendly win over Leon, a Mexican Club on Monday, August 18.
