Chaos has erupted in Nigeria’s camp at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as the Super Eagles players and coaching staff have issued a stark ultimatum: no training and no travel to Marrakech unless outstanding win bonuses from their triumphant matches are paid immediately.

The high-stakes standoff threatens to derail Nigeria’s impressive run in the tournament, just days before their blockbuster quarter-final against Algeria on Saturday.
Reliable sources, including respected journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, report that the entire squad is united in refusing to resume preparations on Thursday if the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) fails to settle payments for victories over Tanzania (2-1), Tunisia (3-2), Uganda (3-1) in the group stage, and the emphatic 4-0 demolition of Mozambique in the Round of 16.

Players are reportedly owed around $30,000 each for the three group wins, $12,500 for the knockout triumph, plus additional goal-scoring incentives – pushing individual totals close to $80,000 amid the team’s prolific 12-goal haul.

“The team is resolute and will NOT train or board the flight to Marrakech tomorrow if this matter remains unresolved,” Okeleji stated on X, underscoring the depth of frustration in the camp currently based in Fez.
In response, the NFF has assured that the Central Bank of Nigeria is processing direct transfers to players’ accounts, with payments expected imminently.

This latest crisis revives painful memories of past disputes, including a similar training boycott in November 2025 before World Cup qualifiers. Despite cruising through the group stage unbeaten and topping it with maximum points, off-pitch financial turmoil continues to plague Nigeria’s bid for a fourth AFCON crown – their first since 2013.
