Time running out on PVC Collection – INEC

Irokwe Okorie, the administrative Secretary, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Enugu State, said that the time allotted for the collection of the Permanent Voters’ Cards, PVC, was running out.

He said that the commission was still in custody of several PVCs yet to be collected by their owners.

“Our men are in the field distributing the cards but most of our people have not collected their cards. It would be unfair that as politicians you will campaign but at the end no one will vote for you,” he said.

The administrative secretary said it was not the wish of the electoral body for any eligible voter to be disenfranchised during the 2015 General Elections.

“Collection and transfer of PVCs are still ongoing, but we cannot just continue the distribution indefinitely as there is a time limit for that. The time limit, according to the Electoral Act, is 30 days before the election so we appeal to those who are yet to collect theirs to make haste,” he said.

Okorie appealed to party leaders to sensitize their supporters on the need to get their voter cards.

“We have been sending our people to the churches, mosques and even the markets to sensitize them. We don’t want people to be disenfranchised.

“It is not just enough to register but you have to exercise that freedom of voting,” he added.
