President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved fresh board appointments for three major federal institutions — the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), the Bank of Agriculture (BOA), and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
A State House Press Release by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President, (Information and Strategy) said the new appointments mark a significant push to strengthen governance and accelerate reforms in agriculture and basic education across the country.
Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, appointed earlier in July, will continue to serve as chairman of the UBEC Board. The new members include Uchendu Ikechi Mbaegbulem, representing the South East, and Gift Ngo, representing the South South.
Others appointed to the board are Mrs. Ibiwunmi Akinnola from the South West,; Dr. Meiro Mandara from the North East; Dr. Abdu Imam Saulawa from the North West, and; Professor Paul Ibukun-Olu Bolorunduro from the North Central.
The chairman and members will serve an initial four-year term.
At the Bank of Agriculture, President Tinubu confirmed the appointment of Muhammad Babangida as chairman, and Ayo Sotinrin as managing director.
The President also approved three executive directors and five non-executive directors representing all six geopolitical zones.
Fatima Garba from Sokoto will serve as Executive Director of Corporate Services; Ka’amuna Ibrahim Khadi from Borno as Executive Director of Risk Management and Strategy, and; Hakeem Oluwatosin Salami from Kwara as Executive Director of Operations.
The non-executive directors are Aminu Malami Mohammed (North East), Charles Amuchienwa (South East), Oladejo Odunuga (South West), Rabiu Idris Funtua (North West), and Kochi Donald Iorgyer (North Central).
For the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), President Tinubu has constituted a new board to support the leadership of Executive Secretary and CEO Muhammad Abu Ibrahim, appointed in October 2023.
Mallam Bello Maccido, a seasoned financial expert and pioneer chairman of FBNQuest Merchant Bank Limited, has been named chairman of the board, representing the North West. Other members include Dr. Nelson Henry Essien from Akwa Ibom representing the South South; Amina Ahmed Habib from Jigawa representing the North West, and; Akinyinka Olufela Akinnola from Ondo representing the South West.
Also appointed are Hassan Tanimu Musa Usman from Borno representing the North East; Lufer Samson Orkar from Benue representing the North Central, and; Felix Achibiri from Imo representing the South East.
The appointments are widely seen as part of President Tinubu’s ongoing effort to inject competence, regional balance, and fresh energy into key institutions that directly influence food production, rural development, and basic education standards nationwide.
The newly inaugurated boards are expected to immediately begin work to deliver on the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
