The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned what it describes as the “redefection” of some members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, accusing them of acting as political puppets and violating the mandate they won under the party’s banner.
The party vowed to initiate legal action to recover the seats of the affected lawmakers.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Saturday December 6, 2025,, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, said the legislators had once again announced their defection from the PDP despite previously renouncing an earlier move.
He stated that Nigerians are fully aware that the lawmakers are “doing the bidding of their paymaster and demigod.”
The party asserted that the lawmakers have, through their actions since assuming office, demonstrated that they are “a clog in the wheels of democratic progress,” adding that history will remember them as “enemies of democracy” who reduced the legislature to a stage for political manipulation.
Mocking the move, the PDP described the lawmakers’ latest switch as “a defection from APC to APC,” alleging that their political allegiance has long been clear despite occupying seats won under the PDP.
The statement further disclosed that the party will rely on constitutional provisions to initiate legal proceedings aimed at retrieving the mandates it said were “ignobly and surreptitiously” transferred to another political platform.
The PDP urged its supporters in Rivers State to remain steadfast, assuring them that ongoing efforts are focused on rebuilding the party on a foundation of inclusiveness, fairness and equity.
