One teenage boy got missing on Thursday after the boat in which he and more than 20 other people were performing in an end-of-year boat regatta in Opobo, Rivers State sank.
Virtually all other people in the boat were rescued as the boat sank in front of a crowd of thousands of spectators watching from the Opobo waterfront.

The regatta was part of activities performed as part of the end-of-year activities of Opobo kingdom, which also coincided with the 150th anniversary of the founding of Opobo kingdom by the late King Jaja.
The regatta however continues after the mishap with colourful displays and performance by more than six clubs in Opobo.
The legendary Nwaotam masquerade is expected to be performed on New Year’s Day.
