Ibim Semenitari, River State Commissioner for Information has charged women delegates at the on-going National Conference to seek beyond a token of Ministry of Women Affairs.
What they should ask for, according to her, is fifty per cent involvement in all governmental activities.
Semenitari made the call while representing Rotimi Amaechi, the Rivers State Governor at the 2014 National Delegate Conference of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, themed, Career Women in Nation Building.
Speaking at the event held at the ASCON Main Auditorium, Topo, Badagry, Semenitari said journalists should not relent in their role of giving voices to the voiceless, adding that Nigerian women would continue screaming and shouting until the schoolgirls abducted in Borno are brought back.
In his own speech, President Goodluck Jonathan urged journalists to always report facts and not fictions. Represented by Garba Bello, President Jonathan said whatever journalists say is sacred, hence the need for them to desist from fabricating stories.
Lai Muhammed, National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, said women and children are usually the first victims of unrest. In view of this, he said, there is need to consider them in nation building.
Representing Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC leader, Muhammed identified socio-economic inequalities, poor leadership and historical differences as some of the major challenges facing nation building in Nigeria. He then called on all Nigerians, especially women as mothers of the nation to work together in building the nation.
