Segun Aina, the outgoing president of Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, CIBN, has stressed the need to extend the tenure of the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to up to ten years in order to ensure stability and policy consistency. He said this while delivering his valedictory lecture titled, ‘Banking and Banker: Looking Back, Looking Ahead,’ at the CIBN hall, Lagos.

“There is nothing much to be achieved as a CBN governor if he stays for just five years. He won’t b able to finish his new ideas and when a new person comes, he may have different approach to solving similar problems. This would create distortion in the economy,” says Aina.
