The quiet town of Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State was thrown into shock earlier this week after the discovery of a pregnant nurse’s mutilated body, alongside human parts hidden in a shrine, sparking widespread fear and outrage across the state.

According to the Anambra State Police Command, a young woman identified as Somtochukwu Nwafor, 24, was arrested in connection with the heinous act. During police interrogation, she confessed to being the girlfriend of Chiemerie Obika Elobisi, the prime suspect who is now on the run. Her confession reportedly led authorities to a native doctor’s shrine, where human parts were recovered, further confirming fears of ritualistic activities.

The victim, a pregnant nurse whose name was not disclosed at the time of reporting, was allegedly murdered and dumped inside a soakaway pit in the suspect’s compound.

A police spokesperson described the discovery as “horrific” and vowed that all those involved will be brought to justice. “This is a brutal crime. We urge anyone with information on the whereabouts of the prime suspect to come forward,” the spokesperson said.

While some online users falsely claimed that a “human parts market” had been busted in Ogbunike, authorities have clarified that although human parts were recovered, the location was a shrine allegedly used for ritual purposes, not a commercial trading hub.

Investigations are still ongoing as police intensify their search for the fleeing suspect and possible accomplices. Meanwhile, residents of Ogbunike have called for spiritual cleansing of the area and increased police presence.
