In a renewed effort to restore environmental order and tackle criminal activity in public spaces, the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Taskforce on Friday, June 20, 2025, carried out a large-scale enforcement and cleanup operation in the Agege area of Lagos.
The operation, which forms part of the agency’s ongoing sanitation and security crackdown, targeted key locations including the Railway corridor at Ojurin, Isale Oja, Oke Koto, AP, and several adjoining streets in Agege. These areas have long been identified as hotspots for illegal structures, environmental violations, and criminal hideouts.
During the coordinated raid, a total of 84 suspects were apprehended—82 males and two females—for various offences ranging from loitering to suspected criminal activity. According to officials, some of the arrested individuals are believed to be part of undesirable groups contributing to environmental degradation and insecurity in the area.
A spokesperson for the Taskforce confirmed that all suspects will be charged to court accordingly, as the agency continues its zero-tolerance approach to lawlessness, illegal trading, and the misuse of public spaces across the state.
Residents of Agege praised the exercise, calling it long overdue, while urging the government to sustain the momentum to ensure lasting impact. The Taskforce reiterated its commitment to sanitising the city, warning that similar operations would continue across other local government areas in the coming weeks.
This latest enforcement action underscores Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s determination to keep Lagos clean, safe, and organized, especially in densely populated areas like Agege.
