In a move aimed at strengthening governance and boosting morale within the public sector, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has presented 100 brand new official vehicles to senior civil servants across the Lagos State Public Service.

The presentation took place on Tuesday, March 25, 2026, at the Pavilion, Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, where Grade Level 17 officers — substantive directors across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) — received the vehicles in a ceremony attended by top government officials.

Describing the initiative as a strategic investment in governance, Babajide Sanwo-Olu emphasized the critical role directors play in policy formulation, implementation, and overall service delivery in Africa’s largest city economy.

“I presented new official vehicles to our Level 17 officers across the Lagos State Public Service. These are Directors who play a key role in how our Ministries, Departments, and Agencies deliver results. Supporting them is a practical step to help them do their work better,” the governor said.

Reinforcing his administration’s commitment, he added: “We have your back,” while urging the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture with greater dedication, innovation, and improved responsiveness to the needs of residents.

The distribution of the vehicles was conducted through an electronic ballot system to ensure transparency and fairness, covering directors in the teaching, health, and mainstream civil service sectors.

This marks the third phase of such distribution under the Sanwo-Olu administration, following earlier exercises in January 2023 and July 2024. The initiative is structured as a rotational programme to ensure that more senior officers benefit over time.

The development has been widely welcomed within the civil service, with many describing it as a significant morale booster capable of enhancing productivity and accelerating policy execution.

Among dignitaries present at the event were the Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, and the Permanent Secretary in the Public Service Office, Olasunkanmi Oyegbola.

Observers say the gesture aligns with the government’s broader THEMES+ development agenda, which prioritizes efficient governance, infrastructure development, and improved quality of life for residents.

As Lagos continues to position itself as a model for public sector efficiency in Nigeria, the latest intervention underscores the administration’s focus on equipping its workforce with the tools needed to deliver results.

Photos and videos from the ceremony have since gone viral on social media, drawing praise from civil servants and residents who view the move as a sign of responsive and people-focused leadership.

This is a developing story. Further updates will follow.
