Panic and outrage have gripped Nigerians following a deadly highway attack along the busy Ore–Benin Expressway, where suspected gunmen ambushed a commercial bus belonging to GUO Transport Company, killing the driver and abducting several passengers.

According to eyewitness accounts, the bus—reportedly travelling from Lagos toward the eastern part of the country—was intercepted early Monday morning. The attackers opened fire on the driver, who died instantly, before forcing frightened passengers out of the vehicle and leading them into nearby bush paths.

Disturbing videos circulating online show the aftermath of the attack: the stranded bus with its doors left open, personal belongings scattered across the highway, and bystanders reacting in shock. Witnesses said the assailants operated with confidence, herding victims away from the road without immediate resistance.

The Ore–Benin corridor has long been considered a high-risk route due to frequent reports of kidnappings and armed attacks. Dense vegetation and poor visibility in some sections have been blamed for enabling criminal activities, despite the presence of multiple security checkpoints along the highway.
