The United States government, on Friday, confirmed the killing of Ahmed Abdi Godane, leader of the Somali Islamist group, al-Shabab in an attack carried out on Monday, September 1, 2014.

According to Pentagon’s report, Godane was killed in a US attack of a convoy in which he was traveling.

“Removing Godane from the battlefield is a major symbolic and operational loss to al-Shabab,” Rear Admiral John Kirby Pentagon Press Secretary said in a statement made available to Journalists today.

US had placed a bounty of $7 million on his head since the department placed him on the list of most wanted men over three years ago.

The dreaded terrorist group linked with al-Qaeda fighters has launched several attacks on the government agencies and other neighbouring countries assisting in repelling the rebels.
