A tragic wave of violence hit Kebbi State early Monday as heavily armed bandits stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School in Maga, killing the Vice Principal and abducting at least 25 female students in a coordinated raid that has shocked the nation.
Vice Principal Hassan Yakubu Makuku was shot dead during the attack, while a security guard sustained serious injuries as the assailants overpowered the school’s defenses. The attackers reportedly arrived in large numbers, firing repeatedly before whisking the schoolgirls into the surrounding forest.
Security forces arrived minutes after the bandits fled, launching a joint rescue operation involving the Nigerian Army, police units, and local vigilante groups. Search efforts are ongoing across forest corridors known to host criminal camps.
The Kebbi State Government described the incident as “heartbreaking” and assured the public that every available resource is being committed to securing the immediate and safe return of the abducted girls.
This latest assault highlights the persistent threat of banditry and school attacks across northwest Nigeria, despite intensified military operations in the region.
The nation waits anxiously as rescue teams continue their pursuit.
