Digital Training for Journalists Begins In Lagos

The much-anticipated Nigeria’s edition of Editors Lab Hackdays by the Global Editors Network, GEN, begins today at the Vanguard Newspapers, Lagos.

Ameth Sokhma, global editors network, said the program was designed to train journalists to develop digital tools to cover elections online. The Global Editors Network, GEN, empowers journalists, web designers and developers from top media organisations.

Participants are selected from TELL Magazine, ThisDay, Daily Trust, The Nation, The Nigerian Tribune, Channels Television, TVC, School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University and the Mass Communication Department, University of Lagos, UNILAG.

Sokhma explained that the training tagged, ‘New Ways to Cover Elections Online and Through Social Media,’ is introduced to address the need for more collaborative innovation in newsrooms and facilitating the generation of new ideas, while providing best practice mentoring from industry leaders.

He said a presentation will be made by each group and the winning team will represent the country in Barcelona, Spain. “It is an an all expense paid trip by GEN. The team will meet with others in an international two-day final Hackathon at the GEN Summit, on 11 to 13 June in Barcelona,” he explained.
