The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has served impeachment notice on Martin Elechi, the state governor for gross misconduct, reports say.
The motion to remove Elechi was moved by Odefa Obasi Odefa and seconded by Valentine Okik.
Francis Nwifruru, acting leader of the parliament, read the notice at the lawmakers plenary on Friday morning. Nwifruru said the allegations against the Governor include misappropriation of funds.
The governor had recently been submerged in a running battle with some power brokers in the state and Abuja an incident that is believed to be responsible for about 600,000 of the governor’s Supporters defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to Labour Party, LP.
Some members of PDP in the state had accused Elechi of masterminding the fire that engulfed the state assembly complex and campaign structure of Dave Umahi, governorship candidate of the PDP in the state earlier this week.
