Members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, have commenced a sit in industrial action to protest the non-implementation of Consolidated Tertiary Institution Salary Structure.
Adeyemi Komolafe, Chairman of ASUP, Osun State, and Kayode Azeez, vice chairman of the union, disclosed this in interviews in Osogbo on Wednesday.
According to the union leaders, during the sit in strike, lecturers go to school but they do not teach the students. He explained that the strategy was adopted to prompt the implementation of the salary scale.
Komolafe said the union held an emergency congress and started the strike since Monday stating that the case had been reported to the national executive of the ASUP and they had given their support to the local chapter.
Azeez also said lecturers in the school would continue to go to school but would not teach until their demands on the implementation of CONTISS 15 were met.
“The union, ASUP Ede had an emergency meeting where it was resolved that lecturers should embark on a ‘sit in’ industrial action over non-payment of arrears of shortfall in the January and February salaries which was occasioned by no inclusion of CONTISS 15,” he said.
