The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly arrested former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, in a dramatic early-morning operation in Kaduna after he allegedly attempted to evade authorities following his conviction in a massive ₦33.8 billion fraud case.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede confirmed the arrest, stating that the anti-graft agency moved swiftly to re-arrest the convicted ex-minister after learning he had allegedly fled custody following the court judgment.

“Saleh Mamman was arrested this morning in Kaduna after going into hiding. He has been convicted and sentenced to 75 years for ₦33.8 billion fraud,” Olukoyede reportedly said.

The arrest has triggered massive reactions nationwide, with many Nigerians describing the operation as a major victory in the fight against corruption and abuse of public office.

Mamman, who served as Minister of Power under former President Muhammadu Buhari, was accused of diverting billions of naira allocated for critical electricity infrastructure projects across the country.

The scandal has once again intensified conversations around corruption in Nigeria’s power sector, an industry that has consumed huge government funding over the years despite persistent electricity challenges affecting millions of citizens.

Many observers are also questioning how the former minister allegedly managed to evade immediate custody after the sentencing before EFCC operatives eventually tracked him down in Kaduna.

The EFCC says the arrest demonstrates its determination to ensure that politically exposed persons convicted of looting public resources face the full weight of the law.

This remains a developing story. More updates are expected as investigations continue.
