The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested Oluwametomi Adetokunbo, a House of Representatives candidate on the platform of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, for allegedly obtaining the sum of N142,029,000 (One Hundred and Forty- Two Million, Twenty- Nine Thousand Naira) fraudulently.

The anti-graft agency alleged that the 37 year–old politician obtained the money from a businessman named Isa Bello, under false pretence to buy building materials worth. EFCC claims that Adetokunbo acted in the guise of servicing a supply contract she had with a construction company, which comprised of materials including 9,900 bags of cement, 381 tons of imported iron rods and 468 tons of local iron rods.

The petitioner alleged that the politician paid an initial sum of N40,000,000 (Forty Million Naira only) but issued two post- dated cheques totaling N102, 029,000 (One Hundred and Two Million, Twenty- Nine Thousand Naira), which were returned unpaid.

Bello later reported the case to the EFCC after all efforts to make Adetokunbo pay up the

balance yielded no desired result.

Wilson Uwujaren, Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC said Adetokunbo who intends to contest for a position in the House of Representatives at the Ogo Oluwa/Surulere Constituency will soon be charged to court.
