Suleiman Abba, the Inspector-General of Police, on Monday cautioned politicians to advise their supporters not to engage in violence ahead of the forthcoming elections, stating that they would not go unpunished.

Abba made this disclosure at a meeting with senior police officers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

While stressing that the police is prepared to provide adequate security during the election, Abba urged politicians to abide by the code of conduct so as to ensure that the 2015 elections are peaceful.

“We are here to further strategize on how to allay the fears of members of the public, in particular, the electorate with regards to the exercise of their franchise. I want to say without any hesitation that the police are prepared and would continue to do everything to provide security for the general public.

“Politicians should observe and assist law enforcement officers in making sure that violence do not take place; they should make resolution not to seek the release of their members who are arrested for violence,” Abba said.
