FG Inaugurates Architects Registration Council

Akon Etim Eyekenyi, Nigeria’s Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, has inaugurated the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria, ARCON.

The body, saddled with the responsibility of regulating the training and practice of architecture in the country, was set up to tackle incessant building collapse and other problems of structural defects in the building sector.

While inducting the 49 members of the council, Eyekenyi explained that they would determine the standard of education and experience to be attained, as well as other prerequisites for every architect practising in Nigeria.

The minister urged members of the council to take up the task with a great sense of responsibility and commitment to demonstrate that the confidence reposed in them is rightly placed.

He also reinstated that they should consider the appointment as a call to national service and rid the profession of quacks who only contribute poor designs leading to building collapse in different parts of the country.
