Zurich, Switzerland. In a deeply emotional and controversial development, a British couple, Peter and Christine Scott, both 80, are set to become the first UK citizens to jointly end their lives using the high-tech Sarco euthanasia pod in Switzerland.
The couple, married for 46 years, made the decision after Christine was diagnosed with vascular dementia. According to Peter, the choice was not made out of despair, but out of love, dignity, and a desire to avoid the suffering and helplessness that often accompany degenerative illness and aging.

“We’ve had a full life, and we want our final moments to be peaceful and on our own terms,” Peter said in a prepared statement.
The Sarco pod, often referred to as the “Tesla of assisted dying,” is a 3D-printed capsule that uses nitrogen gas to induce death through hypoxia, rendering the user unconscious within seconds, with death occurring within minutes—painlessly and without panic, according to its inventor, Dr. Philip Nitschke.
The Scotts’ final moments will reportedly be filmed and submitted to a Swiss coroner for review; a move intended to ensure legal transparency and establish a precedent for this type of medically assisted death. Switzerland remains one of the few countries where assisted suicide is legal, though the use of advanced devices like the Sarco remains legally ambiguous.
