Marcello Lippi, Italy’s 2006 World Cup-winning coach has retired from football management.
He announced his decision after winning a third straight league title with Chinese side Guangzhou Evergrande.
“I don’t want to coach anymore, I’m too old. Guangzhou Evergrande will have a new coach next season,” the 66-year-old Italian said.
Lippi also won the Champions League and five Serie A titles in two spells with Italian club, Juventus.
Lippi says he will take over as technical director at Guangzhou, with his former Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro among the favourites to replace him as coach of the 2013 Asian Champions League winners.
Lippi steered Italy to World Cup success in 2006 but could not repeat that feat in his second spell in charge as the Azzurri was eliminated in the group stage four years later.
He also won the Champions League and five Serie A titles in two spells with Juventus.
