LAGBUS Asset Management, a mass transit bus service company providing intra-city bus transport in Lagos State, has begun mass recruitment and training of female drivers across the state. Babatunde Shoderu, head, bus captain training, LAGBUS, said no prior driving experience is required to be qualified, adding that the female drivers would be given all the necessary training before they hit the road as LAGBUS drivers.

“We believe that the female gender should also be given the opportunity to serve the society. LAGBUS is prepared to commit a huge investment into selection and training of these females, as some of them have no driving skill. LAGBUS is giving them the opportunity to attend an all-expense paid training between four to six weeks, depending on individual learning capability after which they will be automatically employed,” Shoderu explained.

He further explained that in the first stage of the training, the students would be enrolled in a private training school where they will learn the basics of driving and road signs for four weeks. Successful candidates would then proceed to the next stage at LAGBUS Training School where they will learn how to drive LAGBUS for four weeks.

Joseph Rose, one of the trainee drivers, expressed joy to be part of the training. The candidates are required to be not less than 25 years old and holders of SSCE, though graduates of higher institutions are encouraged to apply.
