Akeem Moraino, a Lagos based commercial driver was remanded in Prison custody yesterday, April 7, 2014 by an Ikeja Senior Magistrates’ Court 5, Abule-Egba, Lagos; for alleged reckless driving which resulted in the death of one Sikiru Sabiki Esther, aged 16.
Moraino was said to have driven a Volkswagen Vanagon Bus with registration number SMK 849 XJ along Fatolu bus stop, Ipaja road, Lagos in a dangerous manner without care for other road users on March 31 this year; claiming the life of Esther.
The police Prosecutor, Insp. Rachael Williams told the court that the offense is punishable under sections 29(1) and 103 of the Lagos State criminal law, 2011, and CAPs 121 and 124 vol. 6 of Road Traffic Authority, RTA.
Moraino pleaded not guilty to the two charges leveled against him by the Ipaja division of the Nigeria Police.
Tajudeen Elias, the court’s Chief Magistrate granted him bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two responsible Sureties in like sum one of which he said must be a community leader.
Moraino has been remanded in prison custody for not being able to regularize his bail terms while the case was adjourned till April 23, 2014 for mention.
